Perhaps listening sessions with groups of transgender persons have allowed Pope Francis to better know us simply as people.

As a lifelong Catholic, who has known since early childhood that she was transgender, I ask: “Who defines who I am?”

While I had a very positive reaction from my priests, I know others who have experienced the complete opposite: they were told that they are sinners, evil, or that they’re not Catholic.
